I was born in Tokyo and then lived in Moscow until I was 6. Sadly, I have only American citizenship and the only Russian I know translates to "I want cookie." These early failures prepared me well for a life in science. I studied archaeology at Harvard, learning about ancient agriculture, diets and brewing through stable isotope analysis under Dr. Noreen Tuross. I then spent three years at the NIH in the lab of Dr. Tony Fauci studying the first interactions of the HIV envelope protein gp120 with host T cells. After a two-year detour to start medical school, I'm very excited to be back in lab looking at how host genetics regulate transmission, infection and latency in HIV infection.
